be careful doing this. If it's an ink tag it needs to be taken back to the store. I used to work retail and had someone who brought back a shirt that was ruined because they tried to remove an ink sensor tag. If it is the non-ink kind they can usually be removed with wire cutters. If you are unsure the best thing is to take it back to the store if you can. Hope this helps!

If the store won't do it or you haven't got the time simply use a long nose wire cutter (pliers). You will have to use the tip to bend the pin back and forth until the metal is weak enough to snap.
If it does have ink then you will have to burn the back part off. Yes you can damage the article if you are not careful.

This happened to me before. First I called the store and talked to the manager and told her what had happened. Then I took my item back along with the reciept (you may have a problem if it was a gift) and they used their little device to deactivate the security device. It seems like it was a very easy process. In the hustle of getting ready for Christmas, I'd bet this happens more than we would imagine. good luck, sweetie. Oh and please don't try to remove it yourself, it leaves big nasty holes in the material. :0) Nana

Different stores have different removal tools for different tags. If there is another store in your state they will do it. If not, I guess it would be worth a try to take it to a different store, and if not send it back to your MIL to have it removed, if it's worth all the trouble lolz.

take them back to the store with your receipt. If there is ink in the tag do not even try to remove it at home. The ink explodes everywhere.

You can't. You have to take it back to the store. If you try to remove it yourself, you will damage the garment.
