This is such a good question, and I'm drawing blanks on some things:
News: torture and domestic spying revelations
Entertainment: I really like Brad & Angelina Jolie and what they are doing to help Africans, so I found their stories engrossing
Politics: The cliff hangers regarding control of the Senate. First the Macaca Senator Allen comments that COST Republicans the Senate, and now Senator Johnson whose brain problem may lose it back.
Sports: I'm a redskins fan, so there is no joy or memorabilia for me here!
Business: Google - wish I'd bought a few shares at $130 or whatever outrageous-sounding price it opened at!

politics- VP cheney shoots friend in the face on hunting trip, and doesn't so much as call the president. let alone the authorities in what clearly was a sobering up delay. also, congressman mark foley get's popped sexually harassing underage ale pages.
entertainment- mel gibson melted down in a anti-Semitic rant after being busted on a DUI. anything branjolina.
sports- probably the underdog cardinals winning the world series.
world wide- Saddam Hussein might hang before the end of the year which would easily take the cake.

At this moment we have the riveting Saddam execution saga,
Britney got caught with out underwear, It seams that all professional athlete are duking it out in the middle of the game...The vice-president shot in buddy in the face and this past summer we paid up to $3.89 for a gallon of gas.
