With respect to your other question, you have to do some reading on the subject.

There are two different types of nasties that can get into your computer.

Trojans and Viruses

Spyware (General name)

It's best to read on the net about what these are, what they do, and where they come from.

Anti Virus, will search for viruses and trojan horses, and Spy Sweeper is one of the software programs on the market that will search for spyware stuff that will get into your computer.

Norton targets virus's in general while Webroot's SpySweeper is for adware and spyware with a good coverage of Trojans.
Adware serves ads, spyware tracks your movements and can even copy your passwords with keyloggers and the like while trojans are nasty little apps that masquerade as legitimate apps to allow a wide range of things up to and including full control of your comp.

Anti-virus software is a must in todays net environment as well as crapware protection. My advice is use both.
For your AV you should consider Nod32. It's rated number one and only costs about $40 US. Norton isn't the best, it's usually rated about 3rd or 4th under Kaspersky, BitDefender and Macafee. For a free AV try AVG or Avast.

Also try Ad-Aware and SpyBot Search and Destroy. They are both free and target ad/spy ware.

While you're at it, go to zonelabs.com and pick up the ZoneAlarm firewall. There is a free version but pro is nice. Their anti-spyware is only ok and their anti-virus in sub-par so get either the free or pro version.
I hope this helps. Good luck and happy new year.

Spy Sweeper simply rids your computer of spyware. Spyware is just unwelcome software that watches your internet habits and reports back to the company that pirated it onto your computer.

Norton is a much more comprehensive software. It defends you from all sorts of malicious viruses that could actually destroy your computer.

I hope that helps.

Disable the Anti-Virus factor of your secret agent Sweeper and you'd be high-quality. I Run McAfee Anti Virus and secret agent Sweeper. secret agent Sweeper has stopped many trojan fake attack alerts. I even have had alerts pop up telling me i became contaminated, and secret agent Sweeper ideal in the back of it telling me the rouge software became quarantined

norton anti virus scans for viruses...although if you get the pro edition, you can ALSO scan for spyware and adware. spy sweeper from my experience is a really powerful spyware sweeper, but it only detects spyware and adware, not viruses.

Norton is for viruses and spysweeper is for spyware. There are free options that are pretty good. This site has a good list of free security tools. http://www.basicspywaretips.com/
