it has been my experience that videos have to be converted to mp4 format before installing them on an ipod, there are a few software versions available such as, xilosoft, and vidoera that can be used to convert the videos

No it's not stealing. Every individual now a day's possesses a great collection on DVD's or CD's. With mine, I just download them to my Ipod. It' just take s a lot of time to sit down to it and just do it. I love my Ipod. I have gotten th newer one since my old one kicked the bucket on me.
Anyhow, if you have any question's regards Ipod is most likely they already have been asked on YC.
The best site for answer and help is on
www.apple.com and than tab on the Itunes/Ipod tab. And go to support.
1.) pop yur DVD's/Cd's into your Disk drive on your Lap/PC
2.) open up Itunes
3.) import which songs you would like to do.
That s about all. It's not that hard. Now, I am not familiar with DVD' but pretty sure it goes the same way.

step 1.
go to this web address (do not include the spaces):
www .xilisoft. com /downloads /x-dvd-to-ipod-converter .exe
and download the xilisoft software.
step 2.
install it on your computer.
step 3.
unlock the program by opening it, going to the help tab and entering the following registration code (do not include the spaces):
F71DC344F73424E44D8538B9- 56E7 -92E2- 5D6D
(I have to put spaces in the links and registration code because yahoo will block this type of info otherwise)
step 4.
to add a dvd, insert the dvd into your computer (you must have a dvd-rom drive on your computer to put dvds on your ipod)
step5.
on the xilisoft application, select profile and select the appropriate ipod.
step 6.
click on the dvd button on the xilisoft screen and select your dvd drive as the source.
or for a video on your computer select the appropriate file you wish to convert.
step 7.
select the destination by picking which folder you would like to save the video to.
step 8.
once all the information has been gathered from your dvd, click the red record button to start ripping the dvd. this will take several hours because it must also convert the files to mpeg4 format.
step 9.
once the dvd has been ripped, open the folder you set as the destination and select the files you wish to put onto your ipod, you may want to preview these files first by playing them with quicktime.
step 10.
drag and drop the selected video files into your itunes library or use itunes to add the files to your library.
step 11.
plug your ipod into your computer and put the videos onto your ipod!

Well there are some applications that you can get free off of the internet, but you can't rip DVD's without one of these programs because every DVD comes with CD Pirating protection to prevent movies from being put on the internet for others to download for free. It is illigeal depending on your definition of "illigeal." Just google search to find one of these applications. Hope this helps, Brodster

don't worry; it's not illegal. if it is, i'm in trouble. anyway, all you need to do is download a software that can make iTunes read your dvd. check on the internet for a good one. you can buy one, or just download the sofware off limewire. after you download a software, then iTunes will recognize it
