Afer being a customer of bluckbuster for several years I was
charged the FULL movie for returning the movie 1 week too late.
The manager claims to policies have changed and late fees up to be charged for the full movie apply after 1 week late.
Do you guys know an alternative beside Blockbuster??
I am sooooooo upset.
Joe.

I won't do business with blockbuster anymore, I got screwed in their store after been a good customer for 11 years so for me their online plan might be attractive but it is a matter of months before they screw people online as well. Thanks for the offer though.

I was NOT aware because NOBODY sent me the new policies!! The charged my credit card $67.00
And yes they offer to refund my card after applying a $1.25 on all movie who were late!! Restocking fee ? Late fee?? What do you call that. BLOCKBUSTER Did NOT inform me of the change of their policies and probably screwed millions of people!! And yes I call their customer care. She APOLOGIZED for that I was NOT informed about the policies change!! For me IT IS OVER.

I was charged the same also, ignorant apes just wanted to gain costumers for a quota. I believe in supporting local businesses. I have found struggling with corporations and chains, gets you fat, mad and poor. Sorry!

You should have just told them that you lost the movie and then you could have kept it. My son has ruined a movie or two from them and the cost of paying for it was whatever the value of the movie was at that time. He scratched up the first disc in the "Sex and the City" season discs and it was $12 to replace it. (It wasn't that long ago that a lost or broken movie would cost well over $100 to replace...at least that isn't a problem anymore).
Though if they had charged you for a week in late fee's, it probably should have cost more then the cost of buying the movie if they added it up, so they may have actually saved you money. What are rentals there now, $4? If they charged you $4 for every day it was late, it would have cost you about $28. Though I don't know how much they actually charge for late fee's.
I'm a part of Blockbuster's instore "movie pass" program. We pay about $28 a month (including tax) to go in and pick out two movies at any given time. We can run home, watch those two movies, return them to the video store for two more and so on and so forth. You can watch as many as you want on any given day. We've rented as many as eight movies during one day. No late fee's...you can hold onto them as long as you want and not worry about it.
We used to use Netflix, but the turn around was so slow that we didn't feel we were getting as much for our money. I can't imagine Blockbuster online is any better. And you can go to the smaller or different video stores, but they are all going to have rules that are not going to be very pleasing. I've been to a few mom and pop type video stores and their late fee's are usually much worse than the chain places.

I have been a Blockbuster customer for over 10 years, and I also have their online service which I am very happy with. It's frustrating to have a bad experience, so maybe I can shed some light on their store policy.
Although they dropped their fees in 2004, they still have due dates for their rental products -- one week for games and two days or one week for movies, depending on whether it's a new release. But customers will be given a one-week grace period after that to return the product. After that grace period ends, the chain will automatically sell them the product, less the rental fee. If the customers don't want to purchase the movie or game, they can return the product within 30 days for a credit, less a restocking fee.
It has been my experience that they call you first to remind you that you need to return the movie or you will be charged.
Obviously you were not aware of the specifics of their policy, so I hope this helps.

I've never had a problem with movies being a 1 day rental. I worked in a store which rented out movies (1 day) and found that so many people think that they didn't have to return it at the convenience of the business, but more of at their own convenience. I've always wondered why. Why they rented a movie with no intention of watching it any time soon. And if something did come up and they couldn't watch it, concede the few dollars it costs to rent as a courtesy to other people who may be looking to rent it. It is only a couple of dollars. Why does it take so long to watch a movie that is 1.5-2.5 hours usually? Just curious. Where is our courtesy for people nowadays?.....

I find it much easier to go to my local library to rent movies. Thankfully we have a nice selection of media that is constantly updated. The library is much cheaper ($2) and the rental is MUCH longer (2 weeks!). Plus late fees aren't too bad and the money does go to a good place.
If you aren't lucky enough to have an updated media selection, there is always Hollywood Video and some supermarkets...

BlockBuster is crap. Not a good selection. Fees, crap service and they edit the movies because it's a "family" business. Get yourself a Netflix subcription.

First, be responsible and return your borrowed items on time.
There are many better alternatives to Blockbuster. In borrowing AND buying. Blockbuster's happiness with their franchise name's ability to lure repeaters has caused them to forget who put them there. I pick up any DVD's or VHS I want (up to 10 total for one week) at my city's public library (system wide) for free.

You can go to Video Ezy can help you or just go to a local store.
