Nascar??? Oh pleeeeease..........
First, the look of the cars. Stock cars look like a pile of bricks placed on 4 wheels and given a huge engine that is only good at making a lot of noise. F1 cars... everything about them is designed to be sleek, sharp, sometimes pointy, so that air can flow smoothly over them creating maximum downforce with minimum drag.
Then... the noise. I like the note of an American V8, but my favorite motorsport sound has to be a 3-liter V10 engine revving up to 19500 rpm close to destruction, for 2 races. The new V8's sound good, but I personally like the scream of the V10's more.
Then there's the question of the technology involved. F1 cars are packed with technology to help the drivers in obtaining better control and helping the teams in monitoring the cars' performance in order to know where to make improvements. The driver can adjust the mixture of fuel and air in the cylinders, the engine's rev limiter, different settings for brake biases, gearboxes, suspensions; they also have to have a very developed sense for the car, to demand aerodynamic adjustments every time they pit.
And the technological leaps forward in F1 are huge. IN THE 1980'S, 1.5 LITER ENGINES COULD PRODUCE 1400BHP (turbocharged). Today, a normally-aspirated engine with a cubic capacity of 2.4 liters can develop around 760bhp, which means around 320bhp/liter. Stock cars, I believe, don't even do a third of that.
And then there's the question of the tracks. Whoever said that road courses are boring should try driving a F1 car around Monaco. Many drivers have compared it to either "riding a bicycle around your bathroom" or "trying to fly a helicopter inside your living-room". Try it with a stock car... I can guarantee you that it ends up in the barriers after about 3 laps.Plus you have to run with your foot welded to the floor through a right-hand turn which is INSIDE A TUNNEL, afterwards you need to hit the brakes for a tricky 3-turn chicane.
Forget oval courses. All you have to do there is keep your foot on the floor. If you try to do that on a road course, you're dead in 3 seconds.
And when did a stock car driver get killed last time in a race? 2001. When did a F1 driver last die in a F1 car? 1994. Almost 13 years ago. So safety measures have been implemented in F1 quite well before in stock car racing. Too bad that, in each of the two, it took the death of a legend for the people to focus on safety.
If I had to choose between the two, there's no doubt in my mind that I would go for Formula 1. The pinnacle of motorsport past and present.
WRC is also a damned good motorsport; I like it, but the trouble is poor coverage. I also like MotoGP, but sometimes F1 and MotoGP races overlap, and that's an issue. Plus MotoGP races are shorter, so no pit strategies.:(

I would probably watch NASCAR if it was on free-to-air TV, but where I live, it isn't. I don't know much about it, and F1 is my first choice, but I'm sure you can enjoy watching NASCAR once you get into it. I guess it's a little bit like cricket, or golf, or stamp collecting or whatever...if you're into it, you're into it. If not, then not. You just need to sit down and watch it for a while. Read some stuff about it, talk to people who are into it, find out about the characters, the teams, the history, the rules and other idiosyncracies about the sport.
By the way, if you really don't like NASCAR, why bring it up at this F1 site?

Depends if you'd rather watch actual competition or cars 30 seconds apart. If the first one, then NASCAR.

Nascar; Look at the cars while nascar is more stock making it more difficult to handle and adds to the sport of the race while F1 cars aren't even close to anything you'd probably ever see on the road and makes it actually easier to handle making it less sporty. I personally don't think the engine makes much difference but the Nascar has kept there V8 engines the F1 cars are actually changing to a v6 turbo charged engine as of 2014 so the V10 is out. Than the technology while it's interesting that the F1 has a lot of cool technology that nascar could throw on it's cars if they wanted but why make the sport easier? yes other drivers have the same technology so that's still hard but now they don't have to worry about all the extra factors of the car itself. Lets get to race tracks while I agree its not all that interesting to watch nascar isn't really that much different? Wooo they make lefts and rights amazing wow! (sarcasm) also They do have road courses for nascar and actually do fairly well not as well as an F1 car because there actually a car still and not a machine that practically does everything but steer. And nascar isn't as easy as it looks first off you go up to 200+ in the straightaways hit the brakes to make the turn otherwise you will drive straight into the wall, and you try handling a turn at 180mph depending on the track of course, your literally on the edge of going straight into the wall and having your back end come around and spin you out. compare that to a car that does everything but steer at what 60mph in the turns? while it is generally a sharper corner and still difficul it doesn't seem as hard to control as 180mph in a stock car. Also a F1 driver switched to Nascar and guess what? is a complete nobody compared to Earnahrdt Jr. and Jimmy Johnson (my favorite two drivers) While the last time a nascar driver died was in 2001 (Earnardt Sr. who was probably the best nascar driver ever and will and has been greatly missed) instead of 1994 you have to understand these cars are easily going 200mph while F1 cars don't get to but what 100mph? give or take, This is just my opinion Yeah I agree nascar isn't as interesting to watch but neither is F1 cars really so whatever, i think F1 cars are over rated and nascar cars are under rated

I watch F1 and NASCAR, NASCAR mainly. i like NASCAR because it has *BETTER* racing. Side-by-side, beating and banging, 4 wide at the line, and the drivers dont worry about fiddling around with what you guys call them "steuarts," they do it face to face with the other driver. The cars in NASCAR can be driven with sucess without bumpers, fenders, etc. those things can take a beating. Also, in NASCAR, you cant just win 50% of the races because there are 36 races. F1 there are 19 races. You only have to win 10, and Vettel is doing that year in and year out. A driver would have to win 18 races to have 50% of the wins. Which now is impossible.
Formula 1 is, what i think, the polar opposite. I have not seen a race last year that ended with a side-by-side finish. The cars sound terrific, its just that they are as anal was an OCD accountant. Tire temp, wing angle, track temp. The damn car cant run an effective lap without having a wing at both ends of the car. I watched every F1 race this year and ill give you a summary of each race:
Race starts, leader gets out to huge lead, wins race OR the leader has mechanical trouble and has to stop. The only exciting thing about an F1 race is the start, the standing starts are terrific, i love them. Ill watch the start, change the chanel to NASCAR and then see who wins the F1 race later.
I think its sad that F1 drivers can only drive for 2 hours and that the FIA had to put a time limit for the races. Cup drivers have to do a 600 mile race, ya F1 i just said 600 miles, not 600 km, 600 MILES. which could be 5+ hours long, which is about twice the time of a typical F1 race.
And the best part about NASCAR is;
You dont know whos gonna win untill the checkered flag is out.
In Formula 1, i could tell you who will win the race after the first 10 laps.

I prefer Formula 1 and IRL....I like the look of the open wheel cars better. I also like road courses....and when NASCAR is on those, it just isn't the same. They just look big and clunky going around the curves. F1 cars are so high tech, and it takes a lot of physical ability to drive them. Not saying that you don't have to be in shape to drive in NASCAR too though. I actually started out a NASCAR fan, then was introduced to F1...now I'm hooked on that. BUT...since Montoya left to go to NASCAR....guess I'll have to check out a couple of races in 2007. But I can't wait for the new season of F1 to see how Alonso does in a McLaren, and Kimi in a Ferrari!! This should be an exciting year.

I actually like both. On different levels one may be more difficult
then the other. For each you need to posess different skills. Nascar I think has more exciting racing and F1 is more about skills. So it's interesting to see which team ( in nascar) can not screw up and in f1 it's seeing which driver is the best.

I prefer F1.
Because F1 is faster than NASCAR.
In Japan,F1 is held every year, but NASCAR has never been held.
as I have not seen actual NASCAR race, we can't value NASCAR.
F1 has a lot of high tech and talented drivers,so I love F1.

An open wheel race car is better than a stock car, any day any time. I'd have to say I prefer F1 to NASBOR. I'm a USAC dirt NON WINGED sprint car & midget fan! I do belive NASCAR has done one hell of a sales job to shove an inferior product down the american consumers collective throat!
F1 has its problems as do all sports, but it is like soccer in many ways. Both F1 and soccer are clearly the biggest sports everywhere on the globe execpt for here in the United States. We Americans only want to watch Americans partisipate in American sports. That being said, we Americans will drive our German cars to the liqure store to buy Irish beer and watch this weeks "All American" Nascrap race on a Japanese television. Hmm, it sounds like i'm on a soap box. All in all I'd just rather have my race cars with out doors and fenders.

I prefer F1 over Nascar. IMO it's way more difficult to pilot one of them than an Nascar around an oval. BORING! Even one Nascar driver said he wouldn't be able to do it unless he was given the proper physical training. He said the forces these guys (F1 drivers) are under are amazing.
