if your not trying to just make a buck, write something that speaks to you. it has to come from your heart. you will find that if you write with the passion that inspired you people will read it. i to am a writer who found my self asking that same question. i started a fantasy, mystery, romance, and a graphic novel-trashing all of them- only to realize that what i had to do was get back to what got me started. write whatever inspires you, and try not to worry about its popularity. good luck, don't ever give up

I've always prefered the Classics, everything from Homer to Dickens. I like the fact that the Classics follow a certain pattern, a recipe that we know works. Lately I've read a lot of Joyce (being part Irish I feel its something I really must be able to quote by heart :-) and I enjoy Joyce's subtle humor and dreary descriptions of Dublin in "Dubliners" - maybe because I grew up in Dublin. Also I would like to recommend Terry Pratchett, the greatest satirical novelist of the 20th century.

I'm a big horror fan. Grew up reading Goosebumps which eventually lead to becoming a Stephen King fan.

I like reading books that have a weird twist to them. I enjoy Dostoyevsky's style, and in fact, my favorite book is "The Idiot" (I cannot underline or italicize that as one would properly do when mentioning a novel's title). I like to pretend that I am just like the idiot in that book, but I don't always have to pretend.

I like to read erotic fantasies about middle aged character actors who dress in drag. That should sell well!
