yeah you can if they are within 30 feet. My sister and I got one and we both can write to eachother from our house. But if you want a long distance thing you have to have a friend code and have an access point. which sucks b/c i don't know how to even get a friend code b/c there is never any access point. but good luck.

Within a certain range, yes you can use a messaging program in the DS. It's not to wide. Less than a mile, I believe.

nope. It kinda sucks. all you can do is play with certain games... maybe they have headphones where you can talk now...
unless they made something new since i owned a ds, then no, only pictochat, which is used with other people who have a DS within like 100 feet of you. DONT GET A DS.

Yes and no. You have to get their signal and then they will be in a chatroom. If your friend has a DS and she goes into one of the chatrooms, you will be able to talk to her. (That was an example) Good luck! I hope I helped!

well you can talk on pic-to-chat but that is only when the other person is near wit their ds
