According to an April 2006 Tatler magazine interview with Nicole, her biological father was a drummer who worked with Lionel Richie; her biological mother was a backstage assistant for Lionel. When Nicole was 3, Lionel and his wife Brenda Harvey-Richie informally adopted her and raised her as their daughter[citation needed]. When she was 9, they went through the legal formalities of the adoption; she still speaks with her biological mother who is also of Afro-Hispanic extraction and currently resides in the Dominican Republic[

She is supposedly the daughter of Sheila E's brother. Adopted by Lionel and his greedy x wife. But it is rumoured that he is her real father and with the help of some friends made up this whole adoption so his wife wouldn't get pissed.

yeah,coz Lionel took herher from her father,Nicole used go to where Lionel Richie used to practise form with her father and her father never used to have time to be their for her so he used bring her to practice. Lionel got intrested coz she seemed so nice and also intresed in music and secondly, he and his first wife couldn't have kids so they adopted her. so she ain't his.
