Well Wizards aren't exactly real because they can do magic without Spells or potions. But If you know wzard there mostily illusionists. And the person who said that Warlocks are guy witches that isn't true because warlocks are evil and if you called a boy witch/wiccan a warlock you'd make them pretty mad and insulted.

Traditionally witches were the ones that practiced more of the herbal/healing side of folklore magic. In most cultures that was a female domain but it depends on the culture (men may have also been involved).
Wizards (as others have said) were generally more involved in the ceremonial side of magic etc which was popularly thought of as being more scholarly. Also in some instances wizards were involed in summoning various spirits and demons etc.
As a side note:
Warlocks as other people have brought up have an interesting background. I just finished reading it bit of Montague Summers' "The Werewolf in Lore and Legend" and he seems to think that the word warlock in some languages may actually have been at one time the same word used for werewolf. Then again the author probably isn't the best source of such things as he was a Catholic priest writing in the early 1930's. Still, I find it interesting...
Cheers,

Unfortunately, you did not clarify whether the "witch" was of Wiccan or traditional witchcraft so I can only clarify the wizard part of the question. Sexual gender does not have a thing to do with the difference but the degree of what one studies does.
"A Wizard is commonly considered a person who seeks to master the arts of magick, usually high magick, without reference or dependence on a structure of religious or spiritual tradition. In other words, they might practice magick, but their magic does not depend on the worship of Deity. (In some traditions, this person would be called a “Sorcerer.” Accordingly, a Wizard is then the magic-user who is working on behalf of Deity.) Generally speaking, Wizards are positive practitioners of magick.
According to Shadow Witch (ShadowWitch Web Review), “‘Wizard’ derives from the Middle English ‘wis’, meaning ‘wise’. The word first appears about 1440, meaning a ‘wise man or woman’; in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries it designated a high magician, and only after 1825 was it used as the equivalent of ‘witch’.”"

Boy witches are called warlocks. Now that I think about it, there is no real difference. However, they know magic.
In Harry Potter, witches are girls and wizards are girls.
But I see what you are saying. Wizards can be girls or guys. Usually, they are seen as wise and tall and do magic for the GOOD.
Witches have a bad rep and are seen as devil worshipping and casting spells on the helpless. And being evil.

Wizards of either gender practice ceremonial magic(k).
The term witch is a much broader meaning.. there are those who are of the Wiccan faith that call themselves witches (again this is a gender-neutral term).
There are those who are witches who follow a pagan path.
There are those who are witches who do not follow any religious path.
The big difference between them is really in HOW they go about it.
