Quit putting on new caps, and replace the worn distributor and be done with the problem. Next question?

Make sure that the distributor cap is not hitting anything in the engine compartment due to bad or broken motor mounts.Yes-it happened to me.

Your distributor rod gears may be worn. Or some other reason that allows it to 'walk' up and down in the bore.

i didn't no ol' Al was into auto stuff. I took him as more of a feminine hygiene expert. i agree with the other guys on the distr. itself. a little R/R for the old one and with Big Al.

Not the gears,but the bushing is worn, Al Franken, should stick to his day job!! Oh! thats right, they went bye bye bankrupt!
