It depends on the age of the children. highschoolers should have no recess. On the other hand the elmentary students of today need the physical exercise, they love the T.V and video games too much. Recess forces them to get the required amount of physical exercise that is needed for them to be healthy, or have a healty childhood.

So, your District is considering this for all grades? I'm known as teacher with very high expectations of my students. But I wouldn't think for a minute of taking away Elementary School children's recess. They need the time to run, socialize, and just relax - whatever THEY choose to do with this time, as long as it is within the school's rules!

I think it;s terrible. Kids needs a break. They have all this energy they needs to get out but no recess so then they get in trouble because they get antsy in class. This is especially true of boys. I think it helps when they have recess because they can go back to class and be better able to focus.

we are creating a country of overweight couch potatoes and the schools arent helping this any. the children need to get outside and have time to burn off energy. i'm all for a run around the school between each class or subject. the school lunches need to be looked into also. the things the public school system feeds children is horrible. the children have eaten calorie laden junk for breakfast or lunch at school and they have no way to get rid of those calories. no way to build muscle mass, so they sit in class, fidgity, unable to concentrate enough to learn anything. just think... one day these kids who arent being given a real chance to learn in the public school system will be running this country some time in the future.

Recess is essential! It helps kids to think better and not to be as ansy in class. It also reduces obesity and improves overall physical condition. Our state (I think) is requiring that (starting in 2007) that everyone must have 30 min. of organized outside physical activity.

Not having recess deprives kids of the chance to interact with their peers and learn social skills which is just as important as anything they learn in class.

It depends on the age level and the amount of time in P.E. daily. With a regular P.E. older kids--4th and up-don't need recess. On the other hand it is very important that young kids-Kg-2nd have recess in addition to P.E., ESPECIALLY KINDERGARTEN!

i think that recess is great!!! it gives children time to get energized after eating a meal in stead of going back to class with their belly's full and in a daze. besides it gives them something to look foreword to during their days at school.
