What could be an explanation for a new ipod malfunctioning when it comes to sound. I've tried many different speakers and headphones but lately my ipod does not produce sound on the right side...any suggestions?

If it doesn't make sound or even a static noise if you wiggle it, call apple.

try resetting it. Sometimes the sound can be fixed with a reset. My sound wasnt working about a month ago, I reset it and haven't had a problem since. You can reset it my going 2 iTunes you iPod info and there should b a button that will reset it. DONT WORRY, it wont delete your songs, it will only set your iPod so it is like it was when you got it, only with what you put on it still there.

Try the troubleshooting on the apple website and then if you still have a warranty you may have to send it back and get a new one. make sure you try all troubleshooting first. Mine did the same thing and i had to send it back.

It's probably a defective jack. You should return it.
