One of the possible causes is that your screen or graphics card/chip has failed.

Take it to a repair shop.

As with some of the answers above, the cable is the number one culprit for this. If you have a 15-pin monitor connector, unplug it from the computer and make sure all the pins are straight. If any are bent, try to straighten them with a needlenose pliers.

Then gently put the connector back in place and make sure it's screwed in. If the cable disconnects from the monitor, also check this connection in the same way.

If you have three, four, or five connectors, make sure they are all securly connected to the monitor and the computer.

If none of the above works, then check the color settings of the monitor itself. My son sometimes plays with my settings and I have to go in and reset them. Could be that someone turned "off" the red color? There's usually a control panel somewhere on the monitor to check this.

Try another monitor to decide if it's the monitor or the PC. And look at the pins in the cable. There are three pins for red, green and blue. If the red one is bent or pushed in, that's it.

check the connection of that color signal. There might be a bad connection or short circuit in the cable. If you have made a special cable yourself, check that you have wires all the wires corectly, because a wrongly connected cable can cause also this problem.

go to hhelp on your computer and see if it is in your trouble shooting.
if not call your computer's tech support.
it's possible you just need to reload your graphics card. in which case they can help you do that over the phone.
