Well, first you need to be sure you really NEED to lose 50 pounds and you're not being extreme. Only lose enough to make you healthy; losing too much weight can be serious. To answer the question, though, since you're only 15, honestly the best solution is the old-fashioned way: diet and excercise. Things like diet pills would be extremely unhealthy to your body because you are still growing. My advice is to set a diet/excercise plan that is simple at first (example: 20 minutes of cardio 3 days a week) then increase the times and cut out different foods as you go along and become more accustomed to your healthy lifestyle. Fulfilling your excercise plans each day is a proven way to raise self-esteem as well. Also, don't forget to add STRENGTH excercises like weight-lifting and pushups/situps. Things like this should work very well for a teenager. Remember not to stop the plan after you lose the desired weight, or else it will easily come back and all your hard work will be erased! Stay away from crash-dieting and skipping meals--they sound like simple and harmless solutions, but they can lead to anorexia, bulimia, and other disastrous conditions. Good luck on the road to fitness!

You can not JUST diet to lose weight. Its amazing the people think that they can just lose weight from dieting. You have to diet as well as exercise. Since you want to lose 50pounds, I would suggest that you get a treadmill or go to a gym with a treatmil and run 1-2 miles a day for like 2-3 months. You wont lose the weight all that fast unless you intensify the workout. If you havent that phisically active i suggest that you only run 1-2 miles a day. Do sit-ups and push ups to buildup you abdominal muscles and arm muscles. If you are really serius about losing 50 pounds you have to be serious and push your self to work out everyday. lol dont starve yourself cause you wont lose weight that way. 50 pounds is quite a lot of weight to lose so you have to be bit patient. Stop all fast foods and try to eat healthy. If you want to keep that weight off i say that after you lose that weight dont go back to eating fast fatty foods and try to keep the weight off. Good luck!!

Gradually. You're pretty young for dieting. Have you been overweight your entire life? If so, you may have thyroid issues. Check with your doctor to make sure that your thyroid and growth hormone levels are okay. If they are you can do what my 15 year old nephew did to lose 30+ pounds. He ate all the same things as normal (at first) he just only ate 1/2 of his usual portion. After he started losing weight and felt better he started exercising. Not working out at the gym exercising, but doing fun things that involved moving around - bike riding, water sports, anything that wasn't boring exercise. He also hit a growth spurt at 14 and has not done anything more aggressive because taller people with muscle weigh more.

Try to eat foods with more fiber, also. Instead of orange juice, have the orange, same taste LOTS more fiber.
Drink more water. Drink tea or coffee with artificial sweetener ( or honey) instead of soda. Soda has more sugar than it tastes like it does. Just drink more. It will help fill you up with less calories than food if you don't drink anything too sugary.

Don't go all day without eating anything but lettuce. Unhealthy stuff looks more inviting when you're hungry

Women just don't lose our weight as fast as men because we were meant to carry some fat to make hips and boobs so our bodies hold on to fat a little harder than guys bodies. Lastly, women's bodies need some fat for estrogen, so if your period stops, you are losing too much or too fast. Good luck!

At that young of an age I wouldn't buy into any fad diets. Healthy eating and exercise would work best in the long run and make you healthy overall. Make better food choices such as a lot of vegtables, lean meats, fruits and cut back on sugars and processed food that contain a lot of calories and fat. Get daily exercise and focus on getting cardio like running, swimming, biking etc. Make sure you burn more calories than you consume in a day and you will lose weight. Also, don't just eat healthy, but make it a habit to eat breakfast and other meals, try not to snack too much and do not starve yourself. Good luck.

The old fashion way, sensible meals and exercise! Cut the garbage she eats in half, and have her find something fun to do. I personally love aerobics to hip hop. Weight watchers might be good for her to get the hang of decent portions because of the points system they use. For instance, if she wants a cheeseburger, that is going to nearly deplete the points for more food for the remainder of the day, then she will see that the cheeseburger is not worth it. Also, when she begins eating right she will instantly notice a surge in her energy level. That is great that you are making her get it together while she is young, you are helping her live a long and fulfilling life!

Only regimented diet and exercise will help. Don't starve yourself or overexercise as this will give nice results initially, but will not last (as in you may find yourself heavier than before). I know it sound awful, but Curves is a great gym that you could join, even if you are not overweight as you suggest. They have helpful staff that can get you where you want to be. Also, simple things like switching to diet drinks and low fat or low calorie foods will give you results. If you're 15, it may be part of the growing process, and you may grow out of it.

Seeing how you are only 15 years old, I suggest that you go about it properly. Change your eating and exercise habits now that you are young, I believe will be easier as you should look at it as a lifestyle change. Learn about foods, their nutrient, what you should have as a daily intake. Don't neccessarily look at it as dieting. Look at it as changing the way you eat and exercise (activity level), a healthier lifestyle. Best of luck to you. You can do this.

When I was 15 I had the same problem. I joined TOPS (Ttake Off Pounds Sensibly). It was community based program and I don't know if they have Chapters throughout Canada and the US.

As I got older, I joined Weight Watchers and ended up working for them to ensure that I kept my weight off (had to lose 70 pounds, by that point).

Good luck.
