I think a gift certificate from a hair/beauty salon is a great gift for a girl that age. It doesn't have to be over the top a manicure/pedicure or nice facial should have her feeling very special and relaxed.

Hello - no one SHOULD receive anything for a birthday. A gift is a show of affection or esteem by the giver to the recipient. It is not something that is DESERVED.
So, you breathed oxygen for 16 years, and you think someone SHOULD give you something for it?
