I didn't read your story, but computers were definately around before the '90s! They weren't small like the ones we use today, but we used computers to land a space ship on the moon in the 1960s.

In fact, computer technology was in its infancy in the late 1940s, but there was nothing advanced.

The Czech Republic and Slovakia were one country (Czechoslovakia) from 1918 until January 1, 1990.

Before that, (from 1867 to 1918) the region was a contested territory under the rule of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Actually, the first commercially available computer was introduced in 1951. Computers were a rarity back then, and only 9 were sold between the years of '51-'57. Computers were communicating with each other, in form of e-mail, as early as 1971, i believe.. Laying the ground for today's internet. PCs with internet connection were available (though still uncommon) in homes during the 1980s. But it is true that the internet wasn't looked at as the 'norm' until the mid-90's.

As far as the Czech Republic goes.. I'm not sure if it was ever considered an actual 'country', but it was formed into a common state at the end of WWI (1918).

But yes, you might want to edit your short strory.. otherwise, only computer geeks and history buffs would know exactly what you're talking about. ha.

Computers were invented well before 1990. You might be thinking of the desktop computers, which started becoming available in the 1980s. But, huge macro computers were available several decades before that.

Computers have been around for a very long time. The Czech Republic has only been around for a short time. Before that it was part of Czechoslovakia.
