You can try getting a job in doing something that you like. For example, if you like watching films and might want to study that in college, then try getting a job at a movie/video store like blockbuster or maybe at a movie theater. If you like reading, get a job at a book store. But, if you don't really mind what kind of job you get, many teens are employed in food services (e.g. fast food, restaurants, ice cream places, grocery stores). Just a couple suggestions. . .Good Luck!

I have three ideas for you to pursue if you are serious about working. The first is to talk to your school's counselor and ask about a work permit. Find out if there are any local employers that have called the school looking for industrious teens like yourself. I was in a program called Distributive Education through my high school years and it was an awesome experience. Ask about it. Another idea is to get to your local library and inquire on books about teens and business. You can set up your own business doing what you love and make more money than you can working for someone else. Your parents can help you and they can get some sweet tax credits for a home based business. Look into it. I'll provide you some book titles and authors to get you started but ask your Librarian for related books. And then finally, along the same lines, check with the Junior Achievement Centers and network with other teens that are in their own businesses. Don't think your age is a handicap... it's actually an advantage. Here are the books:

Fast Cash for Kids … Bonnie & Noel Drew
Better than a Lemonade Stand … Daryl Bernstein
50 Money Making Ideas for Kids … Lauree & L Allen Burkett
Jobs for Kids … Carol Barkin & Elizabeth James
The Kids’ Business Book … Arlene Erlbach
Making Cents … Elizabeth Wilkinson
Make More Money Than Your Parents … Mike Bundlie and Others
How to Be a Teenage Millionaire … Art Beroff

And here's the link to Junior Achievements:

At 16 in california you can work with anything that doesn't really involve heavy machinery. That includes places like retail, grocery stores, fast food, ect. I'm sure it is similar in other states. Go find a store or place you want to work at and apply.

Yes, I started working when I was 14.
The state's unemployment office was not far from my home, and they had all kinds of part-time jobs for kids.

Also fast food companies, and grocery stores always need help.

GOD bless us one and all, always!
