Albert Pujols.
He's a gold glove at first, he's got unbelievable work ethic and phenomenal talent.
How many players do you know who strike out one more time then they homer, and wind up hitting 49 dingers in one season, while hitting better than 330, and driving in over 100 runs. His OBP, OPS, and slugging are ridiculous, and there is no part of the field he can't hit a ball out of. In one All-Star game, he managed to take a pitch meant to jam him out of the park, keeping the ball just inside the left field foul pole. 99.9% of all ballplayers either miss that pitch entirely or smash it way foul.

Kurt C, PLEASE we all know that Barroid does not even run all out to get to fly balls...... the question says OVERALL!!!! There are probably at least a dozen players that are better players OVERALL then the Cheater...First let me start with a few heavy hitters.... Albert in St Louis, Ryan in Philly, A healthy Ken in Cincy,or a Alfonso in Chi town all of which play DEFENSE, and of course I cant leave the MAN that is known as D.J. these are just a few that are more COMPLETE players then BARRY!!!!!

Right now Albert Pujols has started his career
like no other. He has won a WS,MVP,Gold Glove. The only set back for him I believe is his base-running skills, hes not real fast and takes unnecessary chances on the bases while ignoring his coaches instructions.O'yea he puts his foot in his mouth every once and a while.I think that he has the tools to win a triple crown, which hasn't been done in a while.I also think that no matter how many Home-Runs Bonds ends up with Albert will surpass him. So I guess my answer is AP

First off. Im a Red Sox fan. But there is nobody that brings more to the table than Derek Jeter. He can hit, run and play defense just as well as anyone. But that isn't what puts him over the top. Its the intangibles. The things you cant count with statistics. He brings passion for the game and uncanny team leadership.

Depends on what your criteria is for "best player". If you are going by MVP then it would be Ryan Howard or Justin Morneau. If you want power then maybe Albert Pujols. Finesse , go with Derek Jeter. Pitching, you have several choices. I would go with someone who year after year proves himself to be valuable to his team, leads them to the playoffs. and each year leads in several categories....that would be Albert Pujols

I presume you are excluding pitchers, and DH's. If you go by the five tool theory (speed, hitting, hitting w/power, defense and arm strength), a good choice would be Carlos Beltran of the Mets. Derek Jeter is not bad either.
