dont know about u of phoenix, but they are a private university and things work a little differently there. you should go to a state university for they will absolutely help you with your degree. because they are a state university, they MUST comply with any and all of IDEA. i would say that is your best bet, especially because i believe that going to class and working with the professor is best, especially in education, where you will do much field work. i recommend going to state. you dont already have a degree do you? there are many state universities in socal. i am from there myself and i know you will find success in your education if you start there. in california, there are MANY hoops to jump through to get a teaching credential, it takes a lot of work and determination. good luck to you!

Although I did not attend the University of Phoenix, I am familiar with them. The institution, although accredited, is a "diploma mill"--and is not a well respected academic institution. If you have your heart set on them--go ahead. they are required to provide you with reasonable accommodations. But you won't be getting your money's worth.
There are several reasons for this. First, they lack the facitlities of a full university--they (and you) must dependd on other institutions even for basics like libraries.
You will not "get your degree faster"--that is advertising hype--and outright misrepresentation. The reality is that you will have to take the same number of courses. At a full university, you can do this just as fast--if you can handkle the workload. But if you need more time and a lighter workload, you have that option.
Finally, if you want a good special education prograam, there are several universities in California that offer better ones--and the public universities are among the best in this field in the USA--and they cost far less. They also have internship programs and professional contacts that will help you to get a job when the time comes that the University of Phoenix does not have.
I'm sorry to be so negative--but the reality is that this is simply a for-profit school--and not a very good one.

Unfortunately I can't help you specifically with information about University of Phoenix, but I want to raise this concern: does that university, being an online program, actually have a real teacher certification program? Since they are a national school, you will have to investigate very carefully to make sure their requirements fulfill your state's licensing requirements. If not, and if they aren't affiliated with local schools/universities so you can get internships and practica going, you will be wasting your time and end up having to go somewhere else to finish up anyway. Sorry to sound negative, just a thought.

that's the online school, right? the only thing I;d worry about is that while they have videos, there is a lot of text you are responsible for on you rown. I'm not sure how you can get accommodations for this. Ask them if they have a department of disabled student services. You've probably not had an evaluation in a while, or may not have kept your paperwork from when you were diagnosed in school, so ask them what you need to do to prove you have these learning disabilities, and thus require accommodations.

Yes, they do help you succeed & you will if you stay with it.
I went to UOP, for over a year and ahalf. It's a very differant aproch to your typical Univercity. The staff there are awesome, I as well was in speacil ed and the teachers were great. If you ask for help, ( after Class or on break) there more than willing to help you.
I also wasn't aware they had a teaching program.
But what ever you do remember to get your admitions counclers Name and Number, and also, if he or she -promises you ( ANYTHING) have them write it out and sign it.
If you would like to know anything else, just Email me.
