You're 13, you aren't going to find a job willing to pay a 13 year old the money that you want. Not to mention the working age is 15. But if you live in a small town where your own mother got laid off, the chances of you finding a good job are slim to none because our economy is in a recession so companies aren't doing so well. Look at Ford and GM even they are laying off hundreds of thousands of people. But since you seem pretty mature and willing to look, find a doctors office and ask them if they need someone to do their sterilizing. When I was your age ( I'm 24) I worked in my dads' office. He's an oral surgeon and he would have me clean and sterilize all of the equipment after he did surgery. You don't have to have any certification or anything to do it either. Just someone to show you how to run the autoclave(sterilizing machine) Not to mention doctors can afford to pay you more because no matter how bad this recession gets people will ALWAYS need doctors.

At one time, I volunteered at a hospital that treated children with cancer.I used to read stories, play board games, and for the smaller children I would do puppet shows with some friends. We didn't get paid monetarily, but we saw our rewards on the children's faces. The down part of this job was sometimes returning and seeing a bed stripped of its linen. Those days were very hard. It's also a great bullet on a resume for someone that's still in highschool. It can even be a small project for you to round up some friends and "sponsor" a ward or hospital once a week for a few hours and have a paycheck on the side.
Rather than telling you some fun places to work, I'll tell you some fun businesses you should consider starting yourself and maybe enlisting the help of your friends and splitting the costs:
1.Dog walking or vacation pet care - You can get your parents to invest by paying for your ad on the paper or flyers. Offer a less expensive rate than kennels do attract potential customers.Your serivices can consist of walking their pets daily or by providing in-home pet care while the owners are on vacation.
2.Errand-running for busy people or elderly - You can offer shopping for groceries, renewing their license plates, or taking their cars to the wash, etc.Busy people often do not have time today to stand in line to get their license plates renewed, to buy groceries or to run other errands. You just have to make sure that you schedule your appoinments so that they will not conflict with each other.
3.Creating Web Sites - If you are artistic and technically minded, there is a great opportunity available right now creating web sites for small businesses as freelancers. My brother (19)is self taught and has done some websites for small businesses throughout the states all from his room.He works as a freelancer and advertises free through craigslist.Sometimes when he gets overwhelmed, he outsources to other freelancers in other countries (this enables him to pay them well and still keep a good portion of his profit).Or try creating your own web site that generates a lot of traffic and make money selling ads on it.

I worked in a restaurant as a waitress and found that I could bank my wages and live off my tips. I had lots of fun and I met some really nice people.

I think dog walking would be a good part time job that could be fun too.

Good luck.

The mall is always fun, but be prepared to really work. That was one of my first jobs starting duing the holidays and I ended up with a job for 5 years. If child care is what you really want to do, you have many options. Check into day care centers and see what they require, headstart centers. YMCA, junior colleges many times have day cares too, City parks, health clubs many times have child services (o sorry u said that). If you can't find anything try volunteering, never sell yourself short you can put that on your resume too. Check and see if you have NYSP (National Youth Sports Program) in your area. If you are into sports check into gynasium type places.

First of all let me applaud you for being mature enough to see that what is going on in your town isn't what you want for your future. Second please don't settle for a mediocre future, because you feel that, that is all your worth...do as well as you can in school, get good grade and go to a Jr. College to start. The only one that can hold you back form achieving what you want out of life is yourself. With that said, if you did want to get a job at 16, stick to something that allows you to be flexible, because school should come first. Work in a toy store..that's fun and I did that my Senior year of high school. You can also work in a clothes store, book store, what whatever interests you hold let them guide you. Good Luck and I wish you the best.

If you enjoy being around kids, how about Chuck E Cheese restaurant? Or, an ice cream shop, like Oberweiss, if you live in the midwest, or Cold Stone Creamery? Or, a music store, hobby store (Michael's or Hobby Lobby) or a movie theater? My friend's son really enjoyed working at Trader Joe's Market.

There are lots! Working as a life guard at a waterpark can be really fun. If you are an animal freak, you can be an assistant at an animal shelter. My friends works at a movie theater and she loves it! Or if you want a little bit of excitement, work as a waitress. It's challenging, but awesome!

IF YOU HAVE TRANSPORTATION THEN MAYBE WORKING @ A PET SHOP FEEDING THE CRITTERS ETC. THERES BABY SITTING. MAYBE THERES SOME OTHER JOBS AT THE GYM. ASK AROUND, LOOK AROUND AND TALK W/FRIENDS AND RELATIVES. ABOUT THIS. I WOULD TRY CHOOSE SOMETHING CLOSE AND ACCESSIBLE TO WHERE YOU RESIDE. MAYBE YOU COULD FEED PETS WHEN PEOPLE ARE GONE FOR THE WEEKEND. ASK LARGE CORPORATIONS , THEY TAKE ON HELP OR HOSPITALS WORKING IN THE NEWBORN AREA.. OR WHATEVER. VISIT ANYWHERE AND EVERYWHERE ITS WITHIN PROXIMITY OR GOOD ACCESS VIA TRANSPORTATION. CHECK THE PAPER TOO. DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED - - - PURSUE IT ! ! ! BE FRIENDLY AND THANK EVERYONE YOU MEET THAT HELPS.

Anything you like!
But places in the mall are awesome, because everyone drops by to say hi. The most important thing is convenience (driving distance, etc.) and personal interest.
One of my friends works at Starbucks...she LOVES it.
