because of our dogs. We have 2 pit bull dogs and we currently live in our home in the country. They have 1 acre to play on but it is fenced. For people that dont have experience with pit bulls-they are dog aggresive but no human aggresive. I am worried that we will move into town and our neigbors will hate our dogs b/c of the breed and we will have to put up with the stress of all that(already been there done that) However, most of the homes in the country where we are relocating to are mobile homes and we are really wanting to move into a brick home. What should we do and do you think people will come around to liking and accepting them? thanks to all and if you "hate pit bulls and blah blah..." please dont answer

You know, I am 32 and I grew up with pit bulls being our family pets. I know first hand the drama that can come with being a pit owner. All I can really say is that you need to bite the bullet. You are going to have to deal with all the paranoia the stereotyping and media has built for the breed. I know how well behaved these animals can be when they are raised right. I do hope you don't have to deal with any of the crap, but in the case that you do...try and be respectful without wavering. Most people will not say anything to your face anyhow. As far as renting goes...we always listed ours as American Stafford-shires....which is exactly what they are. When the big dog shows are going...you don't see breeders freaking out when the pits come out...because they have been raised well.
Good Luck and keep loving those sweet little doggies of yours!!

If you can find a yard with adequate fencing, you can reasonably take a house in town. But be aware that neighbors have been injured, and in some cases killed, by pit bulls that got out, and you are absolutely liable for any injuries or damage that your dogs may cause. Check with your insurance carrier, as the potential liability could bankrupt you -- or worse.

Pit bulls have a bad reputation because of all the bad owners. At the same time, if your dogs are dog aggressive, I think maybe your neighbors have something to be concerned about if they, too, are dog owners. Their dogs obviously have as much right as yours to be outside, and it will be very bad for all concerned if one of yours get loose and attacks someone else's pet. No matter your good intentions, I think this is going to be quite difficult.

I think the dogs have a negative reputation and it really isn't fair to all the good dogs out there. Dogs are really only as good as their owners. Some insurance companies and some counties have made having certain breeds very difficult. You might want to research where you are thinking of moving and see if their are any ordinances against your dogs before you move.
