He says he's read a chapter or two out of different books, but never an entire book. Book reports when he was in school were done by him reading the blurb at the back of the book. I have always loved reading, and so there are a variety of books at home readily available. How could this have happened?

Some people don't read because it's hard for them to "focus" on something. If your dad is the kind of man who has to be doing something all the time then it must be difficult for him just to sit down with a book (probably thinking about all the things he could be doing at that moment). He doesn't know what he's missing though.

Televising takes away so much of our time that many of us don't read a single book in years. I guess your father is not the only one who has never read a book. Not reading means missing out on one of the most entertaining and educating thing in our life. It's like a bright sun is out there and we keep the windows closed.

That's crazy! Is he a clever guy? I can barely find my father at his house for all the books! Some people just don't enjoy it and some, like me, do enjoy it but never have the patience to sit down and intentionally read.

maybe he has a very bad memory of reading from his childhood, but try to get him interesting short stories in any subjects he likes most... try to read parts of the book to him, yourself, discuss different parts of it and encourage him to take part in this kind of activity. then hopefully, little by little, he will get interested in reading books. who knows, maybe even a book worm :)
