You should get the Nintendo DS Lite. I have the Nintendo Wii but, I think you should wait for a while. Not because there aren't enough. It is because there have been a few (or maybe a lot) problems with the Nintendo Wii and the remotes. I presonally am dealing a serious problem with my Wii. So I suggest you to get the Nintendo DS Lite instead and wait to see if the Wii is really well made. Plus, Nintendo is going to make another newer version of the Wii soon. Oh, and Happy Early Birthday!!

My brother just bought the DS Lite on Boxing Day and I have been incredibly impressed by its performance. It's so entertaining and the clarity of the graphics never cease to amaze me. They made quite the step up from the Nintendo SP to the DS and it really shows! I don't see how it could get boring after a while unless you don't have a variety of games or aren't really into playing with "gameboys". I don't have a Wii, but I have had the opportunity of watching a friend play it at a store and it was really something else...another great product from Nintendo! I think the Wii might be the better purchase for you since you can play alone on it, but can also play with family and friends when they come over. I think they'll really enjoy it. Some older people I know (in their late fifties) who have never played video games before had a blast playing the Wii. That's just my opinion, but it's your choice. They're both really awesome systems!

They're both great machines, so your decision basically comes down to whether you want a console or a portable, and that simply depends on your situation. Both do cost a lot, with the Wii costing more, and both are rather hard to find right now unless you want to pay more than list price. Either one will get boring if you don't buy games for it, but both are in active development, and great new games keep coming out for them. So, if you think your game machine is boring, you can fix that by just buying or renting another game for it. The big difference between the two is whether your lifestyle allows more game time for a console or a portable.
For me, it's very hard to justify a console. The problem with a console is that I have to decide to game and set time aside to go to the console and game. I can't be doing anything else. And, with my schedule, it's really hard to justify just killing time like that. My DS Lite, however, goes everywhere with me. Standing in line? Sitting on a plane or using public transportation? Great time to play! Slow service at a restaurant? Who cares? More game time for me! It helps that my boyfriend has his own portable too; the DS Lites can use Wi-Fi to play with each other.
Unless you plan to use the Wii as an exercise machine and dedicate time to it, when things get busy, it'll gather dust. As long as you carry the DS Lite with you in a purse or pocket, there are tons of opportunities to use it.
That said, I agree with all the people who say you should eventually get both. They both have very different uses. (I would just recommend against using those strange offer deals unless you're very good with reading fine print and remembering to cancel things in the small window after the free trial is over and before they automatically start charging you money.)

I suggest you get both. Of course Nintendo's Wii will be still shipping out the product. I already have a Nintendo DS and in March I'm getting a Wii. I advise you to buy a Nintendo DS now, and then save up your money to get a NON-Sold outable(that's not a word, I know) Wii, because by February the Wii will be not as popular because everyone already has it.

Get the DS Lite! Both will get boring eventually! But the DS Lite you can take it anywhere and it has many games so does the Wii have many games but if you are travleling a long way, how can you take the Wii with you? The DS Lite is so awesome and the touch screen was a brilliant idea! Get the DS Lite for sure. The DS Lite comes in white, pink, or black and maybe they will make more colors. But the Wii only comes in white.
Get the DS Lite and you won't be sorry! =) Good luck with your descision and I hope I helped!
P.S. Don't expect to find any DS Lites soon though. I don't see any in stores.

I like them both. Both have good arguments for and against, but it all comes down to what you want in your game system. The DS Lite can play games up to Nintendo64 quality, and is portable, but it does have the small screen, and excluding the wi-fi, its kind of a one player system. It is fun though, but I don't think anyone is going to go over to someone else's house to watch them play a DSLite.
The Wii is fun for everyone, has the really cool wiimote controller, and immersive gaming experience. Plus, if you have a gamecube, you can play those games on it as well. The Wii can play 100% of the Gamecube games, and it even has ports for the gamecube controllers and memory cards. Gamecube games are pretty cheap these days, and getting a good library of games(if you don't have one already) at places where used games are sold shouldn't be much of a financial strain.
But that isn't to discount the Wii games. I have Rapala Fishing, Zelda Twilight Princess, WiiSports(of course), and Trauma Center Second Opinion. All are very interactive, and fun to play. The control is just so, out of this world.
I hope this helps you out a bit!

It depends on how often you use either of them and how you like it. I personally prefer the Wii for better quality, as for all handhelds lack that comfortness.
The DS Lite is a regular handheld, and there are no major advantages to the Wii.
The DS Lite and Wii will definitaly be avaliable by Febuary in most stores across North America.

Get them both! Buy the Nintendo DS because you can get it at any store. Then do what I am doing and try to get your Nintendo Wii for Free. Since Nintendo will not be shipping anything until April/May of 2007, this is the best bet to get a Wii. Check out the site I am doing it from:
