like if you are a citizen of that country, will you be allowed to petition your girlfriend as fiance' from another country?

Yes in some countries. I was married to a man in Amsterdam for 9 years and became a Dutch citizen as well.

If I were to move back and want to marry another man I could.
I can't see it happening as that was 9 years too much for me.

I hope that people know what they are getting themselves into when they go to another country to marry.

It can be culture shock and more.

In general if I found myself in the situation to move to another country to marry I would have to think why and why not.
For love you would do just about anything and for love you wouldn't question why you are doing it till you one day realize what you have done. Hopefully your in love enough to just laugh at the fact you followed your heart.

I hope that helps

In countries where gay marriage is recognized then immigration laws often have been modified as well to allow a citizen to bring their partner in marriage into the country. There are other conditions that can be stumbling blocks but not major obstacles. Canada for one allows this. If the foreign partner is pretty close to qualifying on their own; the marriage can add enough points to do the deal. If they are not close to self qualifying, the marriage can be combined with a family commitment agreement to achieve th eimmigration.

Not in the U.S. You can petition/sponsor your gay girlfriend/boyfriend if you are a Canadian Citizen, European Citizen, South African Citizen, or Australian and New Zealand citizen.

not in Massachusetts.

gay marriage is a right granted by the state, but immigration is governed by the federal government.

No that's covered by federal law and federal law does not recognized such relationships sadly.
