It engulfs me about 2 weeks before the period arrives. I know normal symptoms include bloating and cramps, but why must the brain get involved?

Talk to your Dr. There may be something they can do to help. It shouldn't be happening for two weeks.

Also, look into manic depressive / bi polar. I'm not saying you have it, but the up and down moods can be a sign. If that's the case, there is help. If nothing else, it could be as simple as an inbalance due to PMS. Again, talk to your Dr. That's the best place to find your answer.

You may have PMDD. I get depressed too during that time of the month and paranoid it has to do with the hormones.

Hormones fluctuate all month...and moods are directly linked to hormones. If the depression is severe, check with your doctor.
