I assume you are saying that the wire going to the solenoid is in a coil. There is absolutely no reason for it to be coiled. You do want to leave some slack in the wire, but it could just as well be in a bowtie!

The insulated coil of wrapped Wire around the solenoid is energised by electricity [Switched on] creating a magnetic force. This in Turn energises the Vale By Closing or Opening.................[ I presume , The Irrigation System].

It could be to open and close the switch opening the pump or, the floodgate, etc. it's just a type of switch.
