Windows Defender only protects your computer from Spywares and Adwares.... I downloaded this but, not using it a lot...

I highly recommend you use some kind of Anti-virus and Spyware program...

Here are a list of some good programs...
http://www.symantec.com/
http://mcafee.com/
http://grisoft.com/

(If you have an Anti-Virus program and you just need a spyware program, then download Yahoo! Toolbar so, you can get Norton Anti-Spyware scans for free...)

It is very risky to use a PC without any anti-virus software...

Hope this helps...
Good Luck...

Yes, it is recommended that you install more than just Windows Defender for antivirus and antispyware purposes, mainly because Windows Defender is primarily antispyware.

I would suggest installing at least AVG free edition (http://tinyurl.com/y3ns63) alongside Windows Defender. This is simply because Windows Defender has not received much praise or press coverage since its release, and AVG has been in multiple reviewer's top 10 best antivirus programs. However, they should be able to "cover each other's backs" pretty well.

Use Windows Defender for primarily antispyware/malware needs, and run AVG as your antivirus protection.

Also, if you do not have a firewall other than Windows' default, I would suggest downloading ZoneAlarm free firewall (http://tinyurl.com/zko8w), as well. It is a very good firewall, and will often times protect your computer from picking up viruses or malware in the first place.

According to my experience Windows Defender is not good at detecting spywares but very good at detecting changes to computer settings when you install any programs. It can also displays what programs are at 'start up', 'running', 'network connected programs' and 'winsock providers'. And you can enable or disable any program that you want using its task manager. To really get rid of spywares you need Spy Bot Search and Destroy.

Window defender only protects your pc from spyware or adsware but not from virus. For that you will need an anti-virus scanner. Here's what i recommend http://www.free-av.com

Windows defender only picks up spyware ans stuff like like. You can have as many of these types of proggys on ur pc as you want ,spybot, adaware, spware doctor and they will will not clash with each other. What one will miss the other one will pick up on.BUT BUT you should only have 1 I repeat one AV proggy installed on ur pc otherwise they will conflict with each other

in my personal opinion I bought the pro defender and im not liking it.
I had such better success from Norton.
So I switched back to it.
I had over 7,000 items that Norton either deleted or quarantined that the others didnt pick up...
But it is up to you...
My suggestion is the Norton Internet security...
