The full quote is this: "A single death is a tragedy; a million deaths is a statistic."

The way I see it is that Saddam's death (though it would be a good thing to a lot of people) is causing a lot of attention. Even if he isn't going to be executed by hanging, his death still is grabbing everyones attention.

But in Iraq, there are still a lot who are dying from bombs made by terrorist or other reasons. But we hear on the news "30-40-50-100 Iraqis died today as a result of..." and so on and so forth.

Do you agree? I'm sure there are a lot of liable explanations for why this is the way it is, but I'm just wondering what everyone thinks when they hear about the deaths (both American and Iraqi) on the news as opposed to Saddams death.

I disagree with the two factors. a million. "A unmarried dying is a tragedy": it is not important if it is one dying or a million deaths, dying itself isn't a tragedy because of the fact it relatively is a organic technique. it is component of the existence cycle. The circumstances of someone's dying could be a tragedy yet even it is arguable because of the fact there are too many distinctive perspectives that would make it no longer a tragedy. 2. "a million deaths is a statistic": A statistic is a numerical quantity of a few function in a pattern. The fact does not define the pattern so it is not a statistic. If he had stated some thing like, "a million deaths in a city with a inhabitants of two million human beings is a statistic," then he could be suitable because of the fact the fact consists of the pattern (i.e., a city with a inhabitants of two million human beings).

Every death that occurs due to the war in Iraq is a tragedy. Saddam's death is a tragedy only in the sense that violence may escalate because of it.

That's the way humans, and ants, have behaved since the dawn of man. Cain and Abel as an initial example.
Iraq is in the midst of a civil war, as is a number of other countries and ethic groups. It is rather hard to get terribly anguished about it.

Very astute observation.

I see the hanging of Saddam as pivotal to both justice and a much-needed US win.
