splits are hard to learn. i have a good experience. if wanting to do the right or left splits then practice each night and you will find you will get closer and closer to the ground. the centre i would recommend the same. I am a dancer and now what you mean. I am sorry i dont no what a straddle is.

stretch, stretch, stretch, and stretch some more. When you are done stretching, then do it again! This is one of the most popular questions asked in the dancing category.
There are many ways to stretch, you can use yoga and pilates, you can do ballet stretches, gymnastic stretches, there is even an on-line stretching class you can join.....
Whatever way you choose to stretch the secret is to do it more than once a day and to your stretches daily! It can take some time depending on how flexible you are, if you are already close it shouldn't take more than a month. Keep your determination up and be consistent in stretching everyday, several times a day!!

first off i get in the lunge position and put my arms on each side of my front leg.i make sure my back leg is straight and i'm putting all my weight on my front leg. i hold that for about 30 seconds (it's hard but worth it). then i do that same thing with my other leg.
After that, i get into the plea(don't know if i spelled it right) position and bring out my left leg. u should be able to feel the stretch on the left thigh. hold it for 20 seconds. then i do the same thing except with my right leg. good luck!

When stretching, contract your muscles, hold, then relax the muscle. You should have gone a little further.

Don't know how safe it is, but it worked for me.
