Saddam wasn't any worse than many of the dictators successive American and British governments have supported around the world. International politics is a dirty business; sometimes it catches up with dictators, often it doesn't. It rarely catches up with the instigators, typically Presidents of the US and Prime Ministers of the UK.

Saddam was a dictator, and certainly guilty of the crimes with which he was charged. But he was backed throughout by American, British, French and Russian money. When are those countries going to pay for their hand in his crimes?

Just one dictator out of many. When will America do something about the dictatorships in places like Saudi Arabia? They torture women there just the same as Saddams guys did.
Oh wait, the Saudis are the Bushs buddies. It will never happen.

Hmm, tough call. Lock him away for life??? That's the only other option. It's hard to imagine this man having a guilty conscience though. I don't really believe in capital punishment, but it's hard to think that sparing his life is bringing about justice. Personally, I would have locked Hitler away for life. Perhaps it is a greater punishment than a quick death, because we all must suffer death at some point in life. I also think that we shouldn't commit the same crime that these murderers have committed.

Good idea or not, he never would have been able to stand trial or to have been exicuted at the Hague or in the US with a jury of his peers and Bush and Blair both know it. That's why his Judge is someone he jailed for eight years. This man would have been disallowed in any but a kangaroo court.. It's just plain rotten legally, and we as the great leaders of "justice" let this tell on us." By the way idea is misspelled"

Apparently this will satisfy a need for revenge by a large segment of the population who were victimized by the Saddam regime. Given their proclivity for killing, perhaps this will satisfy a national bloodlust, leading to a more stable Iraq.

Nice to see someone else brainwashed by the US government and media. Saddam might have been "evil" but at least he was able to keep the country in check which is a lot more than can be said than for the US lead coalition there now. Might as well be the countdown to civil war.

I agree, he needs to be gone so the people of Iraq can finally put that monster behind them. It's not going to cure all, but it will take the evil shadow off of them.

Off with his head, just after caning the soles of his feet (electric shock applied to his balls simultaneously wouldn't be a bad idea either).
