Injuries is part of the reason. But the main reason is that they have the wrong personnel for the type of defense the opt to play which is the Cover 2. The key of the Cover 2 defense is the ability to stop the run. The Colts aren't good at stopping the run.

Because there's so much emphasis placed on their offense. . . . they can't stop the run game, and if the other team can get to the QB, then they're basically shut down! I honestly don't think the Colts are as good as everyone is making them out to be! My pick for this year . . . . Chargers!

All offense begins with stopping the run. They can't stop the run, currently. THis creates problems for the whole defence. When the Jaguars, not the top rushing team shred your defence (Maurice Jones-Drew had to take IVs at halftime, he ran so much), you know you might be in for a bad time. They gotta get back to the basics and re-learn how to tackle. With players missing tackles so often, you can't stop teams.

They dont have enough playmakers. Freeney and Bob Sanders (when he's healthy) are the only above average players on the defense. And if you cant stop the run, you cant win the superbowl. period.

It was sorry to begin with. If you exclude Dwight Freeney, there isn't one quality player on that defense. Unfortunately for them everyone has figured out that if you run all day, you win.
