Better off without paypal?
I think 2.9% charge with an additional 30 cents is too much deduction. Am I better off without having a paypal acount for receiving payments and buying items...provide the pros and cons please...

Wrong category, but I agree with you that they are charging too much.
If you have your own selling site, you probably won't mind about the deduction as long as you get certain level of profits.
But if you pay to sell, like eBay, then paypal is really a big minus.
Paypal is only good for those who do large amount and quantites of transactions. Afterall, you don't want to just make nickles on trades.
So, I think you are better off without using paypal transaction when receiving payment.

But for making payment, you're easier with paypal because you're not the one who's losing money. :)

I have paid for many things using Paypal and am very happy with the service. There is NO charge for making payments.
If you are selling things, what you're charged is minimal. Unless you're already in a financial situation, the deducted amount isn't worth worrying about.
Paypal allows you to purchase hundreds of goods and services without revealing bank and personal info to hundreds of websites. It's also very convenient and easy to use for sellers.
You'll find the best information at the Paypal website.

I am with another poster and I dont buy unless I can pay with paypal. Not only does this help protect when disputes occur but honestly I like to complete the transaction and carry on with my life. If I have to go get a money order and mail it ect...most likely I would forget so paypal is the way to go for me.

No!!! Paypal rocks! You can even get a PayPal debit and credit card...

I think if you go under the merchant services tab in your account you can actually pay a one time fee so they will stop take whatever%....you can also add a processing fee to your original price so money won't be lost...also most people feel safer using paypal than almost any other service...especially ebay people...hope that helps...

PAYPAL IS AWESOME!

I think going through Paypal is safer for Ebay transactions and other online transactions.I can give you a link that deals with Payapl & Ebay transactions through Paypal. PayPal is one of the most popular online money transfer systems widely used for online auctions, pay to surf programs, e-books and purchase of low value goods. It is now a part of the online auction website eBay. More details available at

I think it depends on what business you have or if you are just selling things around your house. If you except more than 3 credit cards then it charges you. I didn't like it only because I was just selling small things I had.
