I've been reading a lot of the questions on here too, and I'm glad that, for the most part, this yahoo answer thing is a microcosm of a Juniour High School study hall...

If it wasn't, we'd be in deep doo doo, indeed, as I think most here couldn't find Russia on a map, if the name was imprinted...

However, this is one American that is going to take a wait and see attitude.

We could be moving into a new cold war with Russia and perhaps Russia's new partner China, and that has the potential to be devistating to the US and Europe. Especially given the current state of affairs between American and Europe (aside from England) which I think bush (small "B" intended) had much to do with.

As an example, take the recent fighting in Somalia. I don't know how directly we assisted the Ethiopian troops there, but it's not a far stretch to see that as a protracted war with ourselves on one side, and Russia (and their allies) supporting the other side.

But that's only one possible scenario. Putin is trying very hard to get away from some very ingrained "Mother Russia" attitudes, but old habits die hard. Russia and China have endeavored mutual military excersizes and the like, but China is much more interested in economic growth. It is entirely possible that China may look upon Russia's antiquated ways as a ball and chain it will have to drag with it as they continue their relationship.

I have no idea which way that relationship will go, other than China can certainly use Russia's natural resources.

So to answer your question, in the current state of affairs, Russia is having enough problems dealing with their former Soviet Union states and Europe to be any real threat or problem to America. But I would not look forward to dealing with a united Russian and Chinese front.

For the most part I don't think America does. But it also depends what generation you're talking to. The generations that were brought up during the Cold War, and the people who were adults during that time, they might have a different answer for you. I would imagine having this constant worry about who is gonna attack first would skew your vision of a whole country. The American action movies that were made during that time didn't help, either. Most of the bad guys in the movies were Russian spies. (Kind of similar to what's happening in American movies now... where it seems all the bad guys are terrorists from the Middle East. Hollywood just plays off of the audience's greatest fears to sell tickets.)

Even I remember those movies with the Russian spies, and this constant tension with the big huge red country on the other side of the world from me, and I wasn't anywhere near being an adult during that time.

People growing up in America now have only ever known Russia after the fall of the Soviet Union. So they don't have that knee-jerk reaction from an earlier time.

Hope this helps.

Russia isn't a fearful country. They're in debt their army isn't that well. Their army may be better then some other countries but not the British/American armies.

Alot of people die in Russia everyday. They have many diseases. Russian isn't that well of a country.

I'm not trying to put Russia down. I wouldn't mind visiting Russia one day. I don't know how close the U.S is with Russia since the fall of the Soviet Union. I hope we never goto war with Russia. They have many dangerous weapons. They helped us in WW2, they also found hitlers body!

To be honest, I think there is still a bit of competitiveness there. Everytime there is an issue (i.e. sanctions, warfare, etc.), it seems that the US and Russia are still on opposite sides. But at least in my life (and I do read the local newspaper and websites), we don't hear too much about what is going on in and around Russia these days. I don't think most Americans are tuned into them anymore. I hear more about China now than Russia.

I fear our current regime far more than any other threat. Our government has eroded the rights of the people to the point that we are in a basic dictatorship. Look about you and you see police forces multiplying at a terrible rate, police in our schools, the government dictating exactly how to raise our children, long-standing traditions being destroyed in the guise of "political correctness", the justice system degraded to the point that it only favors the rich and connected, and corruption being commonplace and unimpeded within the government. This is my fear. It is time for a REVOLUTION in this country. NOW!!!!!

Not at all.
During the cold war when US feared USSR, the Soviets feared Americans just as much.
Today, most of the nations of the former USSR are beautiful and friendly.

the U. S., China, and Russia will all continually worry one yet another. that is with the aid of fact those are the three maximum precious international locations contained in the international and neither of them are genuine allies with one yet another. each and each of those international locations has the aptitude ability of wiping out the two, or maybe the two, of the different 2... in spite of the indisputable fact that, a conflict between any 2 of those international places is amazingly unlikely with the aid of fact of many reasons that I won't get into intensity approximately with the aid of fact i'm able to variety for hours explaining the excuses. the reality is that human beings, Russians, and the chinese language have little or no worry from one yet another ( some eu international locations could be further in this communicate besides). it quite is amazingly uncommon that the international's significant powers will actually sq. off face to stand in an all out conflict, surprisingly in present day situations the place all the main precious international locations are economically knotted in with one yet another. as some distance with the aid of fact the AK is going, i develop into contained in the protection tension and that i found out rather approximately those weapons. The Russians have been using them for an extremely long term and not many enhancements have been made to the attack rifle. while the Western international is discover to development a sparkling weapon wonderful while yet another develop into purely perfected. The Marine is rather lots wonderful. those weapons are not almost as precise with the aid of fact the undesirable boys we use. in spite of the indisputable fact that, AKs are regularly occurring to be lots greater sturdy and much less complicated than our attack rifles. they do no longer jam up as many times. and that i think of the Marine is sturdy in announcing they're for spraying as lots lead down variety as a threat. i'm no longer a hundred% particular, yet i do no longer think of there is 3-around burst (or despite) cut back on AKs. i think, i'd desire to be incorrect, that it will proceed to spit as long as you carry the set off down, which facilitates make it lots much less precise than maximum present day-day weapons... i develop into contained in the army although. I wasn't uncovered to rifles as lots with the aid of fact the different branches. So i could purely assume that if a Marine tells you some thing a pair of firearm, that is probable rather much a hundred% wonderful.
