is it normal for the struts to need change at 27,000?

Most likely cause is a worn or failed front upper strut mount. This has a bearing inside it which allows the struts to turn with the wheels. When the bearing goes back it makes the sorts of noises you are hearing. Because the noise happens when you turn or rock the car I don't think its the struts themselves, though they should be replaced at the same time as the mounts.

Another possible cause would be broken stabilizer end links or worn end link bushings on the front stabilizer bar, but I think this is less likely.

Sounds like you got a front end problem!! Have a mechanic check it out on a hoist!! It could be the tie rods or the struts? But the strut maybe not full gone it could be the strut plates on the top which can be bought separately!! Good luck!!

I would guess its a strut knocking around. it probably sounds like something is wobbling loose on your car.... Monroe part # 71973 for front - $65.67 each and the rears are part # 71281 - $54.40.
You can read about monroe products on our website www.logixautoparts.com

hope this helps and let me know if you have any other questions.

if your sway bar bushings are bad you can get the same noise, have them checked out also, $10.00 in parts will fix that.
