#1 answer! Open your mixer and click the microphone mute. This may sound confusing but the mic should be mute at all times! It will unmute itself automatically when you access a program that uses it. Double click the sound in your taskbar to get to the mixer. If it aint there look in accessores, entertainment. If it is feeding back in a program you are using, move it away from the speakers and or turn the volume down.

There must be a microphone plugged in. Go to Start > Control Panel > Sounds & Audio Devices then click on "Advanced" Under Device Volume, Then go to Options then click properties. Click the circle next to "Recording" and then press OK. Below the microphone's Slider on the window, click the box next to Mute. Close the window. Done!

Open your soundcard control panel. Listening environment setting could have set to Hall or cave....experiment with the settings here till you got want you like.
