i got this old buffet the veneer is ruined and has lots of damage i need to remove the old veneer so i can do repair

A steam iron & a damp cloth should get the veneer to buckle enough to peel it off.
Got to start peeling before it cools or the glue will just reset.
A little steam on the glue residue will soften it & will not harm the structure if you go easy

Yes a high heat source will remove the old veneer.

I would be careful removing wood veneer as it may warp the wood underneath as well...test it on area that is not readily visible...
