disk defragment and disk cleanup in accessories then system tools

2006-12-29 10:01:41 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 1 0

run a disk defragment and system cleanup - this should do the trick and make sure you have emptied your recycle bin - if you have not run this then you could have problems in slow running - also how many programs have you installed on it - are you running Norton Antivirus as this can make your pc run slower - mcafee does not tend to slow the system down - experience on my part knows this.
If this fails safe all your data and reformat your pc - it will be like having a brand new one - just make sure you back up your files - no retrieving after wards.

Best of luck

Run disk cleanup or install ccleaner then defrag disk drive. Disable any unneccesary programs from starting with windows such as quicktime, realplayer taskar icons or autoupdate programs.

Run an antivirus scan to check for viruses and an adware/spyware scanner.

A guide I use is http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/OptimizeXP.html just follow through each step.

If ou really want to you could reinstall windows to clear out any junk, just make sure you have everything ou would need to set up pc again

You can look for tasks using up all the processor and memory with the task manager (the window that comes up when you press CTRL-ALT-DEL). You can sort by CPU and memory on the Processes tab. Search for program ("Image") name on a search engine to find out what it is.

HP printer software often causes performance problems. If you have any installed try updating it or uninstalling it.

If all else fails, add more memory.

run your virus scanner

then run something like spybot that will remove spyware and malware.

you can then defragment the hard drive

thats the easier option

the other option is to copy all your files to disc or memory stick and then reformat and reinstall,

i suggest the first to at least see if it does anything

Back up your vital data and reformat your computer.

It'll be like have a new computer all over again.
