This is called Lactational Amenorrhea, and even though you are not having your period it doesn't mean you are not ovulating, so you could try using ovulation prediction kids.
The inability to conceive is natures way of protecting you and your baby. There is no "cure" for it.
Also you may not be having this because of breastfeeding, it could be other problems. Try taking some red raspberry leaf tea and other uterine tonics. Also be sure you are getting adequate nutrition.

Actually, breastfeeding doesn't prevent pregnancy. It may delay your period for a while since you are still producing hormornes for the breast milk that are similar to the ones that you produced during pregnancy. But, you can still ovulate even though you haven't had a period. If you are serious about getting pregnant, than I would talk to your OB. It may be that your body knows it is not ready to support both a nursing infant and an unborn child at the same time, thus no pregnancy.

I have a seven month old and I got pregnant while breastfeeding him at five months. You are less likely to ovulate when you are breastfeeding because of reduce estrogen levels. This is "nature's way" of ensuring the health of the child you are nursing because if you become pregnant your milk supply will most likely diminish and years ago this could have compromised the baby's nutrition. If you truly wish to become pregnant now you could nurse less or not at all to increase your chances of ovulation or use ovulation predictor tests to know when you may be ovulating. I would honestly suggest weaning though if it is important to you to conceive again sooner rather than later. Best of luck to you.

Breastfeeding does not prevent pregnancy. Just ask my friend she thought the same exact thing until she started getting morning sickness again.

it doesn't. you can still get pregnant when you're breastfeeding, because it is still possible to ovulate. It's just a little less likely. That's why doctors prefer that you're using some form of birth control while breastfeeding. Ask your doctor about it.

Breastfeeding greatly reduces your body's production of estrogen while you are lactating. (..producing milk.) It also helps shrink the uterus back to pre-pregnancy size. You don't produce eggs during lactation either. If you stop breastfeeding, your estrogen levels will increase, your breasts will stop lactating and become smaller, and you will be able to get pregnant again as you produce more eggs and the lining of the uterus can thicken to accept the fertilized eggs again.

It's no garuntee. Trust me. I got pregnant while breast-feeding. The hormone levels can prevent periods though. I'd say wait a month, then wean her. Your cycles should return pretty quick.
