Call your local police station and tell them the situation. Explain that you are worried about being watched and do not want to bring it in as you are worried. They will probably send a car over to collect you and the cash.

http://www.met.police.uk/local/ will give you the areas (if you are in london) with phone numbers for each station.

The idea is to turn it in, but to avoid getting blamed. I would never have taken it home, but would have called it into the police at once. Since you touched it, and it may be evidence of a crime, I would get an attorney to go with you as you turn it in to the police, unless you have a friend on the force who could go with you. It is probably stolen goods, in which case there may be a reward, but you are unlikely to be allowed simply to keep it.

You should hand it in to the Police. They will take your details and then contact you if it is not claimed after a certain length of time and it will be yours. That is assuming it's not proceeds from a burglary or robbery. If you just keep it and don't hand it in, it is classed as theft through finding. Best to hand it in asap.

If this is true, I would suggest you take this to the authorities immediately. For all you know, the money could be marked. Do you want this on your conscience for the rest of your life? Or did you just make this up for the heck of it?

Call the police, tell them what you've found, and ask them to come and collect it. Tell them you don't want to go to the police precinct with that amount of money.

Take it to the police. If they dont have any claims in so many days, you get to keep it. Besides, if someone does claim it, you might get a reward and definetely a good feeling.
