I have about two days before I talk about something very serious to someone and I am already nervous now. I found out that wine doesn't help, so what will?

Rehearse the speech / news with you as the recipient. What would be the best way for you to hear the news? I like a blunt approach and really hate when someone beats around the bush. Feel secure in your position - gay and don't want to hide in the closet you have every right to a open life - pregnant and need to state the facts if you want to keep or give up the baby - need to confess something, all you can do is throw it out there and ask for forgiveness. Know what you want by revealing this information and then ask for the response you would like - acceptance, forgiveness, help, understanding etc. Once you feel secure in your reasons your nervousness should abate. Good luck.

Take inderal - it's a beta blocker and it works to make your physical symptoms of nervousness disappear. You may still feel nervous but you won't get the pounding heart and the dry mouth and the shaking hands. You doctor can prescribe one or two pills for you - just tell him or her it's for a public speaking engagement - lawyers and actors use it - I have too and it works great.

write down what your going to say on paper
stand up and read it a few times to make sure you do not need to amend it
then sleep on it, get up and read it out loud a few times, and bring it with you so you can read during the day
this should help you a lot
then maybe even bring the paper with you when you have to go over it, and just read your paper..

good luck

picture how it will go in your head, what you'll say, what they'll say. that's what I do!

And when I think I'm going to cry, I hold my breath. so if you think you're gonna cry during it or something, and you don't want to, hold your breath! you can't cry without air lol.

If picturing it your head doesn't help, write about it, and if that doesn't help, just go out and do something else, like see a movie or something, forget about it for a while.
