Its not gross, its a fact of life like head lice......they look like small white threads about 1 cm long and yes they are alive when they are in the stools....she might also have itching in the vaginal area as they will crawl out at night and move to other moist areas......you can get tablets from your chemist, there is a single dose one available without prescription.......the most important thing is hygiene and reminders that no matter how much she washes her hands.....others might not have so before eating she washes again. Wash all bedding and I would recommend she wears underwear in bed until they have gone..........they are quite common but something that never gets discussed.......

Most things process pretty thoroughly in the digestive system and aren't normally distinguishable. Exceptions are things like corn that don't break down completely or non-food, fibrous substances.

Pinworms are very common in children because the eggs are easily picked up on the hands and transferred to the mouth. Weight loss isn't necessarily a symptom with pinworms, although it is fairly common with tapeworms and other parasites.

The only way to tell is to have a doctor do a fecal sample. That will tell you if worms are present and what kind. The doctor will give her medicine to get rid of the parasites if she has them.

How Do I Know If I Have Pinworms?
If you have pinworms, you might see the worms in the toilet after you go to the bathroom. They look like tiny pieces of white thread. You also might see them on your underwear when you wake up in the morning. But the pinworm eggs are too tiny to be seen without a microscope.

The itching from the pinworms might wake you up in the middle of the night and make you squirm a lot. So if you're itchy and sore on your backside, tell your mom or dad. And if you see worms in your underwear or in the toilet, you should tell a parent right away. You should know, though, that some people with pinworms don't have any symptoms at all.

Here's what my Grandma used on me when I was 3 and had a tape worm. It should work on other worms, too.

She put me on a diet of raw apple, peeled, cored and grated and checked my stool every time I went until I was rid of the worm.

The first day, nothing happened except I was real hungry.
The next day, some white things were in my stool that looked like band noodles - little segments of them. Grandma said that this was a good sign because it was part of the worm.

She kept watching two more days until the head came out which she pointed out could be recognized because it looked like a band noodle with two black spots on it.

Parasites feed on digestive by-products, mostly on ill-digested meat, dairy and flower products. When I went on a fat free, protein free and everything free diet, the parasite simply 'moved out'. They won't stick around when they have nothing to feed on.

I would still recommend, with all the others, that you take her to a clinic, but I know this has helped me and makes simple common sense.

Piperazine is a drug used to treat worms. I'm not sure if you can buy it over the counter in America but if she cant afford to see a doctor it may be worth asking in a pharmacy if you can buy any preperations with that product.

Karma.

There are many different parasites that can infect the digestive system. The can cause very different systems. The only way to know is to hit the doc.

There are free clinics.

I would find a clinic to go to; so that she can get her stool checked. this is very serious and worms can be passed on to others.

the next best thing to a doc is a pharmacist. drug stores must carry da worming for people, since it has been done before. that is my opinion
