You didn't say what state this happened in. In Northern California you can expect to receive: here's the lowest possible sentence I witness was 30 day in jail with 3 years prison suspended sentence and 3 year formal probation. the suspended sentence means if you get in to trouble again they can give you the 3 years in prison,
if you have priors you may be looking at some state time (Prison)

maybe 1 to 2 yrs in jail. If it is your first felony you might do less then 6 months in jail. Your looking at 3 months minimum. (6/2).

Good behavior will cut the 6 months into 3. Plus subtract any time you already served.

You have to ask yourself the question and go from there .... How would you feel if someone stole your car? What do you think the penalty should be?

Well, not nearly as much punishment as it should be, child. Though along with discipline, I think education is in order, as well as a healthy dose of community service.

And your promise of never, ever doing anything like that again.

You don't want my opinion...If I catch anyone trying to take any of my vehicles...I don't call the police, I have a backhoe.
