If you will realize, shortly after 911, the country was ready to be united, but the Democrats quickly began blaming the President and his cabinet for what happened. Even though much of the planning for the attack had occurred under the Clinton administration, the Democrats harped and harped that it was all Bush's fault. Hardly the best way to unite a country, in my opinion.

We were united, and we could be again; however, given the dishonest brokers that pass for political leaders in this country, the next moment of unity will probably be equally fleeting. The current administration manipulated public sentiment to entrench their own power and cast aspertions on those who disagreed with them. They are now beginning to eat some crow, but unless we demand honesty and accountability from the politicians--all of them, not just one party--we won't get anywhere for long.

Unfortunately, if we were attacked again, SOME people would find a way to blame President Bush. That's just how far we've fallen.
When a person can make a speech in a Southern California college about how our president is a terrorist, and we deserved 9/11 and receive a standing ovation, you know we've gone too far.

i'm with you and i wish we could unite without it being something bad. the thing is after 9/11 it was a 'tentative' uniting, ppl were still very suspicious of everyone else, then you had the extremists on both sides jump into it and start spewing their venom then the division started again. in reality i wish the moderate, common sense thinking ppl of both/all political parties which i think are the majority would stand up to the bullies on both sides of the aisle. its sad and disappointing how we let the media and extremists manipulate us like that.

No, all it will take is an administration that is willing to work with both parties and listen to the people. Pre. Gerald Ford was an excellent example of a president who worked with everyone to improve our country. We need more honest decent people like him.

Being that it took a tragedy to divide us more than likely it will take a traumatic experience to bring us back as one, but I have faith this time it will really be as one. If our nation was as strong as it is portrayed to be we wouldn't be in this mess now!
