I've put a new 250GB Harddrive in a machine, the machine spec is 3.2ghz pentium 4, 1gb ram and the 250gb harddrive. The problem is that the bios is identifying the hdd as a 251gb hdd, but when I go to format is for windows and run the installation, it only identfies 125gb, and when I right click, on the hdd and go to properties is says its a 125gb hard drive! anyone got any ideas? I would apreciate any help, thanks!

I should say that I have custom biuld this machine so everything is brand new, I've not seen this issue before, but think is odd that is declaring it as exactly half the size that it acually is but dont know why?

probably set up as a FAT32 drive you need to use NTFS.

go to My Computer, right click the drive and make sure it says NTFS.

check the below link, great piece of software.

Open disc management and try to see if it may be having a partition drive. You may have to format it. I can give you a link that deals with hard drive problems. Some RAM/hard drive problems can be easily fixed yourself by using easily available tools. I found the info at http://fixit.in useful. Try this site, if you can get what is required.

contact the hard drive manufacturer(web siite) they will have a program that you install so that the computer will see it at the size it is, Plus you may need your bios updating so find out what mother board (Make and number) you have and go to the manufacturers web site and download the bios update

You may need to enable large hard drive suport in windows, also if using XP make sure it is NTFS I think Fat32 has problems with large hard drives
