In May of 2006, the band announced they were going on hiatus. Daron Malakian has confirmed the break will probably last a few years, but insists that the band is not splitting up. He told MTV, "We're not breaking up. If that was the case, we wouldn't be doing this Ozzfest. We're going to take a very long break after Ozzfest and do our own things. We've done System for over ten years, and I think it's healthy to take a rest."

yeah they are on a hiatus
the lead singer has been working on a few projects about causes that are dear to his heart. he is a very strong activist in the issues of Armenia, genocide, and human rights.
his new movie "screamers" is out in theaters.
i don't know if you care about his music, his political views, and/or his activism, but here is an interesting interview that talks abou this recent happenings

Would it matter? They have softened up and are only putting out pop music now anyhow.
