An excellent question. My guess, we're just watching the legal systems in process. Since we have physical control of Saddam, our legal system can put a temporary stay of execution in place, it would only be a short delay, I think a week, then he's executed. If the U.S. does nothing he's going to hang by six in the morning their time. If the legal systems around the world didn't have trials, we would have bedlam everywhere. I think it is respect for the law, not the person.

Why not? The days of treating your enemies with respect may have diminished, but the idea keeps going. Just because a dictator is misguided in our views doesn't mean we should disrespect him.
