Tell your mom it keeps you busy, would she rather you be inside at home on your couch watching tv. and tell her its something you really enjoy and it could get somewhere especially if you keep doing it. I take gymnastics and my friends are like that is soo pointless but next year when i try out for cheerleading theyll wish they did gymnastics. Every person needs a fun hobby they really enjoy and no one should tell you, you can't. (well maybe parents can but still)

Cheerleading is a sport. It keeps you active and healthy, encourages team work and leadership skills, and allows you to meet other athletic girls your own age. My friend's daughters are both cheerleaders, have been so for a number of years. One was cast as an axtra in a football movie (they live in Vancouver - Hollywood North) and has since been cast in several bit parts because of her performance in the first film. Not as a cheerleader either. Most recently she was a coffee house waitress and actually had several sentences. She was paid 500 dollars per word.
The younger daughter, also a cheerleader as I mentioned, now coaches younger girls and immensely enjoys the mentoring aspect. The coaching is voluntary, but her skills and hours devoted to her sport reflect very positively on her resumé. Added bonus: She recently started dating a rich real estate agent whose sister is one of her team-mates.
Who says cheerleading is useless.

it can get you somewhere in life depending on what you do with it. if you become really good, one day when you go to college you can be on the college cheerleading team, now that would probably be an awesome thing to do, otherwise being a cheerleader wont stop you from having a good future. well atleast i think so. good luck!

Mom is right. Still, if you want to cheer, you could point out the requirements for cheerleaders such as grades and behavior that are required, or, you could just sit up in the stands with the fellas and neck.

It won't actually get you anywhere in life but it may increase your self confidence & help you make new friends and above all you might actually ENJOY it. I don't know that everything you do it life has to be a guarantee to "get you somewhere". It could actually help you get a part time coaching job somewhere down the line if you want to get real technical. Good luck!
