I've got aquarium sand in my aquarium now. I had gravel and used those vacuum things before. Can I still use it?

yup,
you should use those vacuum things more often with sand because water doesn't flow through sand like gravel.

Yes, but make sure you stir the gravel to get the garbage out before you start suction. Then use the vacuum normally, but just hover the edge of the vac just above the sand so it suck up the garbage. If you stick it on or in the sand it will suck up all the sand. Make sure you stir the gravel regularly, because water does not flow through it, and it will foul fairly quickly, and makes a great home for anaerobic bacteria, which is harmful to your fish.

Yes, but you have to be careful because the sand can easily get sucked out of the tank. I find that the gravel vacs with the longer tubes do well with a sand bottom as it gives the sand more time to settle out before hitting the small tube and being sucked away.
