I dunno i think it depends on what time period you were raised in how you were raised and wear you were raised because if your raised in the country you might be wondering why Tupac is so big or if you were raised during elvis's time you might be wondering why jessica simpson or rap/pop r two big categories now.

The fascination stems from the fact that the guy was good looking young, rich and had a great voive. He did not need all the great special effects in videos like we see today. He could carry the songs he sung without any help from half naked women etc. And the fact that he died young only makes his fans feel a greater loss...and off course, his family till today, have a great PR firm handling his affairs, otherwise how can a dead guy make 40 million this 2006?

Some say he was a great singer I'm not so sure I know he was pretty good but I think the main thing was just that he was HOTTTTTTT and his moves turned the girls on and made the guys jealous and want to be just like him!
